Phantoms of the Organ!

The Choral Society of West Georgia and the LaGrange Downtown Development Authority are co-hosting the first ever “Phantoms of the Organ! – A Great Spooktacular Organ Concert” on Saturday October 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary.

This free organ concert, the first of its kind in LaGrange, will offer a fun filled evening of seasonal organ favorites to delight listeners of all ages.   Six area organists will perform selected pieces which will offer a perfect ending to a festive fall day in downtown LaGrange. The United Way Chili Cookoff and traditional fall costume contest, sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority, will be available to the community throughout the day. The concert will be the concluding celebration of the day’s activities.

The concert idea originally was proposed by Bettie Biggs, artistic director for the Choral Society of West Georgia, after attending an “Organ Spooktacular” in Columbus, Georgia last year on Halloween night. The Columbus Chapter of the American Guild of Organists regularly host the event at an area church every October 31. Using this concert model, she contacted six area organists with a request to perform selected seasonal pieces. With the help of  First Presbyterian Church organist, David Kocsis, the concert has become a reality. The response was immediate and extremely positive from all the invited performers. They have come up with a fantastic program of “listener friendly” pieces to share with their audience.

Guest performers will be:
Ken Bailey – St. Mark’s Episcopal Church
Cindy Brown – First United Methodist Church
Anthony Criswell – First Baptist Church on the Square
David Kocsis – First Presbyterian Church
Eve McKibben – Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Hogansville
Randall Smith – First United Methodist Church, West Point

Program pieces will include Bach’s famous D Minor Toccata and FugueNight on Bald MountainA Baby Boomer’s Halloween – Hitchcock, the Munsters and the Addams FamilyDanse Macabre and a duet arrangement based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic Phantom of the Opera.

The Choral Society of Georgia is a 501 C 3 non-profit organization.
